Ipe (pronounced ee-pay) is a dense hardwood from Brazil. It is rot resistant and more stable than pressure-treated lumber. Its color is beautiful and it is all natural wood. But it is not for everyone. The initial cost is higher and the surface must be treated every six months to a year to maintain its beautiful appearance. One of the signatures to the look of exotic hardwood are the variety in color of the various boards. Because it’s natural wood, the stunning variation comes with the overall package. Ipe is incredibly dense and heavy which is one of the reasons your ipe deck could last up to 50 years – a tremendous investment aesthetically and financially!
